Terry Wogan: But there must have been people who showed you affection and love in your life. Is it that you can’t accept it?
Eartha Kitt: The public and my daughter, yes. The public—if it wasn’t for the public—
Terry Wogan: [repeats twice] Never a man?
Eartha Kitt: A man? [emotional pause] A man has always wanted to lay me down, but he never wanted to pick me up. And the men that did have real love and affection for me were the ones that never touched me. Orson Welles… [mention of another name] And they were a couple of real love, strong love that men have had for me… But then the mothers step in. And I think very often the mothers, particularly with boys who come from extremely wealthy families and they are the only son, they would rather them marry trash than marry… [long pause] Someone of color. No matter how wonderful that person of color may be.**(She mentions three other men, but i was unable to find information about them.)

And dont tell me what to do
And dont tell me what to say
And, please, when I go out with you
Dont put me on display
cause, you dont own me
Dont try to change me in any way
You dont own me
Dont tie me down
cause Ill never stay
